Ertel Wins Vacant County Council Seat

The Baltimore County Council will remain in the hands of the Democrats as Eastcountytimes.com has declared Democratic candidate Mike Ertel as a winner in County Council District 6. He defeated Republican candidate Tony Campbell on Tuesday night. The Democrats still hold a 4 to 3 majority in the council.

Republicans were trying to take the majority for the first time in county history. They thought they had a chance when Councilwoman Cathy Bevins did not seek reelection.

It was a good night for Republican incumbent council members David Marks and Todd Crandell. Marks defeated Democrat Crystal Francis and Crandell defeated Democrat Justin Holliday.

“Based on the returns that we have so far, it’s clear we have comfortably won the Fifth District County Council race. I am overwhelmed by our strong bipartisan support from Kingsville to Middle River,” Marks said on social media.

“Thank you to the voters of all political parties who voted for collaboration and consensus-building, bipartisanship over division, and a positive vision that advances every neighborhood on the Eastside.”
