It was back to school for students and staff all over the county, but it was the start of a new school for students and staff at Rossville Elementary School on Monday.

The new school is located at 7649 Gum Spring Road off of Rossville Boulevard.

Kevin Jennings is the first principal at the new school after arriving from Joppaview Elementary School.

Baltimore County has torn down and built many schools the past few years, but this new $53.1 million project is the first new school to be built in the area since Honeygo Elementary School opened in 2018. The schools design is similar to Honeygo.

Rossville has capacity of 735 seats and over more than 108,000 square feet in order to address the overcrowding in northeast Baltimore County elementary schools.

The new school is designed to meet LEED silver standards.
