Dundalk Falls to Arundel in State Semifinals

The Dundalk Owls season came to an end after they were upset by Arundel 6 to 0 in the 4A/3A State Semifinals.

Dundalk had a chance to win the game in the final minute, but Owl quarterback JA Bonner was intercepted but Arundel defender Pat Connelly with 14 seconds.

The game was scoreless at halftime and Arundel got on the board in the end of the 3rd quarter with a two-play drive. Arundel running back Ahmad Taylor broke off a 32-yard run and then a 20-yard touchdown run.

Dundalk’s defense was able to get the ball back with 3:59 in regulation. After being sacked on back-to-back plays, Bonner hit Jacob Knight on an unbelievable 53-yard pass play on 3rd and 23 to get the ball into the redzone with less than two minutes left in the game. This was the last play before the game winning interception.

This was a complete turnaround from 2021 when Dundalk destroyed Arundel 40 to 6 in last year’s state semifinals.

Dundalk fails to reach back-to-back state title games and finishes 10-2 on the season.

After the game, Dundalk coach Tom Abel shared his thoughts on Twitter.

“Dundalk community I failed you. I’m sorry I couldn’t get us back. 2022 team be proud of how far and how much you accomplished. Forever an owl, forever loved,” Abel wrote.
