Eastern Tech softball was one win away from a trip to the 2A state softball, but the Mavericks fell short in a 7 to 0 loss to Rising Sun of Cecil County.
The Essex based school is ranked 9th by the Baltimore Sun. The Mavericks defeated Sparrows Point in the regional final and crushed Gwynn Park 22 to 0 before Tuesday evening’s loss to Rising Sun.
The Mavericks were led by third baseman Aubrey Coker, pitcher Malorie Gogel and Gracie Himmelman. The team should come back strong next year as Gogel is the only senior on the team.
Eastern Tech was looking to make its first appearance in the title game since 2018.
Eastern Tech was a softball power house as they appeared in the state title game three times in six years in the mid 2000s. The Mavericks won their only softball state title in 2014.
