Parkville Wins Boys Basketball State Title

Parkville defeated Meade 72 to 56 to win the 4A State Title in Boys Basketball.

Meade was beating Parkville at halftime 29 to 26 but the Knights outscored Meade 43 to 27 in the second half to win its first title in school history.

Parkville is coached by Josh Czerski. He is in his seventh season at the school and his team finishes the season at 27-1.

According to the MPSSAA website, The team was led this season by Caron Smith, Sincere Barfield, Favor Okigweh, Josiah Legree, Cayne Woodland and Tre Worsley. Smith had 22 points in the title game and led the team with 20.9 ppg during the season. Legree averaged 15.5 ppg on the year and had 22 points in the title game. Okigweh had 91 blocks on the season and added three more in the game against Meade. Smith and Barfield both had three 3-points to help with the state title. Woodland and Okigweh also helped secure the win as both had 13 rebounds on the night.

The rest of the roster included: Andre Moore, Miko Persia, Daniel Odetoye, Michael Wigggins, Chima Egeonu and Issac Njoroge.

The Knight’s had a perfect regular season as they went 22-0. That included wins over state powerhouse Largo 60 to 51, Gaithersburg 61 to 60, Milford Mill 78 to 45 and New Town 82 to 74 in the last game of the regular season. The Knight did fall in the Baltimore County Championship to New Town 61 to 53. New Town just won the 2A State Title on Friday night over Largo.

In the 4A Regional playoffs, the Knights defeated Perry Hall, Dulaney and DuVal. They went on to defeat Gaithersburg again in the state semifinal before defeating Meade in their first state title appearance since 1974.

The last area team to win a state basketball title was Perry Hall when they won back-to-back 4A Titles in 2017 & 2018.
