The following article has been submitted by District 6 Delegate Bob Long.
As I start the 2025 Legislative Session, I am looking for people interested in testifying on issues that are important to our community. I will be presenting legislation that would make housing more affordable for first-time home buyers. With both property values and interest rates at a very high level, many potential first-time home buyers are prevented from becoming property owners.
Are you fed up with renting because purchasing a home is out of reach? I am also
proposing legislation that will investigate the method the County uses for property tax appraisals. Are you a homeowner who is tired of being penalized because the property down the street sold for the price of a mini mansion, but the County is raising your taxes? The committee needs to hear your story.
I also strongly believe that we need to improve election integrity. I believe that every vote should count, but I also want our elections to be accurate. Not requiring voter identification
opens the door to voter fraud. You need identification to drive a car, open a bank account, and even borrow a library book; but voter identification is not required. I also want signature verification for mail-in ballots. These ballots are so easy to get, an election official should at least be required to verify a signature. I would like to hear from you if you would like to support election integrity.
I will also be submitting legislation that will preserve the history of the Key Bridge, as well as seek financial relief from the effects of the Key Bridge collapse. When I present my legislation, I would like to have support from you if you want that name of the Key Bridge to remain the same after reconstruction.
With famous historical statues being taken down and forcing sports teams to change their names, now is the time to make sure the name of the Key Bridge is memorialized. I am also presenting legislation that will require the Key Bridge to be toll-free for five years. If your commute has been a nightmare since the Key Bridge collapse and you want provide testimony, please contact my office.
My office can be reached by phone at (410) 841-3458 or email at
Bob.Long@house.state.md.us. I would like to talk to you if you are interested in testifying.
Testimony is in person OR online. My first bill hearings start January 28th and will be scheduled throughout February.
