Marks Opposes Changes to Weaken County IG Office

5th District County Councilman David Marks released a statement in support of the Baltimore County Inspector General and said he opposes any amendments to weaken the Inspector General office. Here is his statement.

“I am restating, once again, my strong support for an independent Inspector General. I supported the creation of an Inspector General years before it was formally established.

After listening to yesterday’s testimony, my position is clear: I will vote against all amendments to the administration’s legislation to enact the recommendations of the blue ribbon commission. I never suggested any amendments in the first place.

If further changes are needed, they should be considered as separate legislation developed after discussions with the administration, Inspector General, other stakeholders, and the public. They should reflect best practices used by Inspectors General across the country.”

Seventh District Councilman Todd Crandell released a similar statement earlier in the week.
