Weis Markets Corporate sent out a press release stating it discovered a skimmer at the Dundalk Weis Markets’ Store 085 located at 7848 Wise Avenue on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Weis also discovered another skimmer on the same day at Weis Markets’ Store 089 (119) located at 1080 Maiden Choice Lane in Baltimore.
Here is their official statement:
On November 1, 2023, Weis Markets discovered a skimmer at Weis Markets’ Store 085 located at 7848 Wise Avenue, Dundalk, Maryland. On November 1, 2023, Weis Markets discovered a second skimmer at Weis Markets’ Store 089 (119) located at 1080 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, Maryland.
Upon discovering the skimmers, Weis Markets promptly began an internal investigation. Additionally, Weis Markets notified law enforcement and its payment processor.
The skimmers were capable of capturing track data from credit/debit cards, including PIN data. The investigation did not identify evidence confirming that the unknown third party captured any individuals’ credit/debit card information from the skimmers. Nonetheless, out of an abundance of caution, Weis Markets conducted a comprehensive review of the two (2) checkout lanes where the skimmers were located and on November 17, 2023, Weis Markets determined that certain individuals’ credit/debit card numbers with and without PINs related to certain transactions from October 25, 2023 to November 1, 2023 may have been accessed by the unknown third party.
