Middle River resident Kim Klacik has filed for the open seat in Congressional District 2.
The seat became vacant when Democratic Congressman C.A. “Dutch” Ruppersberger announced he would not seak re-election.
After Ruppersberger made his announcement Democratic Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski announced his intentions for that seat. Del. Harry Bhandari also entered the race on the Democratic side.
The Second Congressional District covers portions of Baltimore and Carroll counties and locally serves the communities of Essex, Middle River, Overlea, Parkville Rosedale and portions of Perry Hall.
Klacik ran for the Congressional seat in District 7 in 2020 but was defeated by Kweisi Mfume.
She is a Republican and joins a GOP field that includes John Thormann and Dave Wallace.
Klacik is a radio host on WCBM and will likely have to give up her radio position.
The last day to file for this year’s election is Friday, Feb. 9
The primary election is scheduled for May 14.
