Former Stemmers Run Middle School Teacher Bryan Thanner has been named the first principal of the new Northeast Middle School on King Avenue. He started his new position on July 3.

“Today is my 1st day as the principal of the New Northeast Middle School (Name TBA). I am honored to have been chosen to help create the kind of innovative 21st century learning environment that our students deserve. I get my hard hat on Wednesday,” Thanner wrote on Twitter last week.

BCPS Fifth District School Board Member Julie Henn said she looks forward to working with Thanner.

“Excited to welcome Principal Bryan Thanner to the New Northeast Middle School! Principal Thanner joins us from Stemmers Run Middle School. Under his leadership, in 2019, SRMS became the first Baltimore County public school authorized by the International Baccalaureate as an IB World School for the Middle Years Programme (MYP),” Henn said.

“Baltimore County Councilman David Marks and I are excited to work with and support Principal Thanner as we open the first new middle school in eastern Baltimore County in decades!”

The school is still under construction and is scheduled to open in 14 months for the 2024-25.

Thanner will spend the next year assembling a staff.
