Six-month-old dies in Essex fire on Foxcroft Lane

Baltimore County Fire Department reported a six-month-old tragically succumbed to injuries suffered last night in an Essex dwelling fire on Foxcroft Lane.

The victim has been identified as Sophia Rivera-Cortes.

Crews responded to a report of a  fire in the 1000 block of Foxcroft Lane around 6:55 p.m. on Jan. 16

The fire was showing from the first and second floor and spreading to an adjoining home.

Firefighters entered the home and located the child deceased.

According to the fire department, an adult female and two children were able to escape the fire and were transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is the second child in the area to die in a house fire this year. Four-year-old Wyatt Martin was killed in a Parkville fire on Jan. 7.

Baltimore County Fire Department said it has seen a rise in deadly residential fires in the past two months.
