Benstorming- Killing a bill that requires BCPS Accountability?

It was disappointing to see that SB 15, a bill to improve accountability and transparency within Baltimore County Public Schools, was defeated by the Baltimore County Senate Delegation.

The bill had bipartisan support.

Democratic Sen. Carl Jackson and Republican Ryan Nawrocki both cross-filed the bill; Democratic County Councilman Mike Ertel and Republican Councilman David Marks both supported the legislation; and
Fifth District School Board Member Julie Henn and TABCO [Teachers Association of Baltimore County] were on the same side of the bill.

Henn and TABCO are often on the opposite ends of an issue, but not this time.

But it still wasn’t enough to get the support of the politicians in Annapolis.

Even though it had bipartisan support and Democrat and Republican sponsors, the vote was along party lines 4-4.

All the other Democrats in the Baltimore County Senate Delegation voted against Jackson’s bill.

Was it a bad bill or were they taking marching orders?

What is wrong with holding the leaders of BCPS accountable?

Washington DC has been known as a city with polarizing and partsian politics but local officials claim that Annapolis and Towson are different. It’s about common sense.

Not anymore in Annapolis. The General Assembly has become as partisan as Congress.

At least we have some bipartisan in Towson. For now.
