Schroyer and Taylor Receive Awards From BCF

The Baltimore Community Foundation [BCF] has announced the 2025 Neighborhood Spotlight Award awardees, recognizing ten Baltimore City/County leaders who make block-level impact — from stabilizing housing to youth workforce training.

Two of those winners are from organizations in eastern Baltimore County- Carla Schroyer, Director of Community Choice Pantry Services, Community Assistance Network (CAN) in Dundalk and Keith Taylor of Sparrows Point North Point Historical Society were named award winners.

According to a statement from BCF, Schroyer “provided critical support to Baltimore County neighbors; In 2024, CAN served more than 9,100 individuals and 5,810 households in 2024 through its community pantry, emergency shelter, and outreach programs.”

Schroyer was also active after the collapse of the Key Bridge affected her community.

“Carla launched CAN Stands Ready, which served over 3,000 households in addition to weekly pantry services, and implemented a special registration and shopping day for Hispanic neighbors to increase access for non-English speakers,” CAN wrote about her.

Taylor was recognized as a founding member of the Sparrows Point and North Point Historical Society and is a passionate advocate for preserving the history and culture of Southeast Baltimore County.

“Keith has spearheaded multiple projects like the Beacon of Hope at Sparrows Point High School, transforming century-old steel materials into solar-powered lampposts surrounded by a 4,000-square-foot pollinator garden and outdoor learning space honoring the community’s industrial legacy,” BCF wrote about Taylor.
