I used to be reporter for the East County Times newspaper in Essex from 2006 to 2011.
The paper shutdown in November 2018 and I felt that the area needed local news coverage.
I started the website Eastbaltco.com. Short for East Baltimore County News. Most people couldn’t understand or remember the EastBaltCo name.
I tried to purchase the old East County Times URL but another former employee has renewed the domain since 2018. The site hasn’t been.updated and the archive articles from 2006 to 2018 remain on the website.
Then Eastcountytimes.com became available. Here is the full story on that domain.
When the East County Times in Essex was looking to go onto the web in the early 2000s, they naturally wanted the name Eastcountytimes.com. That domain was already taken by a California newspaper also called the East County Times. That forced the Essex paper to use the domain with “online” added to the name.
The California East County Times eventually mergered with another paper called the East Bay Times and the Eastcountytimes’ URL went to East Bay’s website.
In 2021, I saw the Eastcountytimes.com domain was not renewed by the California newspapers and I decided to purchase the URL in early 2022.

The Eastcountytimes.com domain was registered to the California newspaper until 2021.
I just want to bring local news to the area.
