The construction of a new air traffic control tower at Martin State Airport in Middle River began on Monday.
Senator J.B. Jennings attended the ground breaking ceremony.
“Congratulations to Martin State Airport on the groundbreaking of your new Air Traffic Control Tower, It was an honor to be included today,” Jennings wrote on social media
“This essential investment will improve safety, modernize operations and help ensure the continued growth of Maryland’s historic aviation sector.”
The $22.2 million construction contract to build the new tower was approved by the state in February.
Delegate Kathy Szeliga also attended the ceremony.
“Congratulations to Martin State Airport on the groundbreaking of the new Air Traffic Control Tower,” Szeliga said.
“Martin State Airport is a vital part of Eastern Baltimore County, and the much needed improvements will ensure that it remains a critical partner of aviation in Maryland.”
