Marks: “Community Meeting to Address White Marsh Security”

Fifth District County Councilman David Marks sent the following information inviting the public to a Tuesday meeting in Perry Hall to address public safety and Saturday’s incident at White Marsh Mall.

Baltimore County Councilman David Marks announced a public meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Perry Hall Family Worship Center to address security measures at the White Marsh Town Center.

The location is at 5125 East Joppa Road in Perry Hall.
It will also be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/countycouncilmandavidmarks.

“Two months ago, I approached the White Marsh Police and Community Relations Council about holding a meeting to discuss plans for increased security at The Avenue and White Marsh Mall,” Councilman Marks commented.

“Given the events of Saturday night, that meeting is even more timely.”

“Let me make it very clear—I have always supported law enforcement and believe in swift, strong consequences for those charged as a result of this disturbance.  Period.  I’ll be reaching out to the State’s Attorney’s office to express my support for the tough prosecution of those charged.  Customers deserve to enjoy an evening out with friends and family, and business owners and their employees expect to be supported by all of us in government.

Many of the comments I read on social media bring up issues that aren’t decided by me as a Councilman.  If you have an opinion about state transit access or penalties for juvenile crime, please share it with your state legislators.  I certainly do.

A word about communication.   We try to be proactive, which is why we scheduled this meeting weeks before Saturday’s disturbance.  When I find out about incidents, I always reach out immediately to the Police Department.   Many of these incidents change quickly—that happened last night.  I will be discussing ways we can improve communication with the highest levels of the Police Department.”
