Patapsco used quarterback Wyatt Perry’s three touchdowns and a second half defensive shutout to defeat Eastern Tech at home 28-24.

The Mavericks fall to 1-3 and the Patriots are now 2-2.

“This win was extremely important. We had two weeks where we didn’t play to our potential,” Patapsco coach Tyler Clough told Eastcountytimes.com after the game.

“I don’t think we played our best this week but we played good enough to win and that’s all that matters. We had to get back on track.”

Perry had 90 rushing and two touchdown runs. He also connected with tight end John Martin on a 20-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter. The senior had three catches for 71 yards on the afternoon.

The Patriots started off the game with a 75 kick off return for a touchdown from junior Shamar Johnson.

Eastern Tech was able to move the ball in the first half. Maverick running back David Akinsuroju had two touchdown runs of 10 and 35 yards.

He also caught a 83-yard reception that setup a five-yard touchdown run from Maverick senior quarterback Chiedozie Erondu.

Running back Luke Brennan broke off a 36-yard run to setup up a Akinsuroju touchdown.

Akinsuroju plays linebacker on defense and his fumble recovery setup good field position for a Maverick scoring drive.

Eastern Tech went into halftime with 24-20 lead, but Patapsco’s defense shut down the Mavericks in the second half.

Shamar Johnson and the Patriot defense stopped the Mavericks on a 4th and goal in the second half and Nick Adkins broke up a pass in the final minute to preserve the win.

The Patriots were led by Johnson’s seven tackles and Liam Perry five and a half tackles.

“The defense did a great job in the second half. We made a few adjustments at halftime and moved guys around and were able to get the result,” Clough said.
