Baltimore County Council passed a resolution to oppose Days Cove Rubble Landfill Company’s permit for increased discharge.
The permit would allow for a discharge of an average of 12,500 gallons per day of treated leachate.
The resolution was passed unanimously on Monday, Oct. 20 and puts Baltimore County on record as opposing the Days Cove discharge permit. This also urges the Maryland Department of Environment to close the facility.
Fifth District County Councilman David Marks was the sponsor of the resolution and he thanked his council colleagues for their bipartisan vote to oppose the permit for increased discharge in White Marsh
“I thank the County Council for passing our legislation that clearly says this proposal is unacceptable and should be rejected by the state,” Marks said in a statement
“It is absurd for the Maryland Department of the Environment to consider any weakening of our requirements. I also thank the County Executive for weighing in, and organizations such as the Sierra Club, Essex Middle River Civic Council, Gunpowder Riverkeeper, and Gunpowder Valley Conservancy for their support.”
