The Maryland Department of Transportation provided an update on the Key Bridge demolition. Here is the statement and photos released.

“Progress is moving along on both sides of the existing bridge! We’ve successfully removed five girder spans on the north side and eight girder spans on the south side,” MDOT said in a statement.

“We have also started demolishing the columns using a large excavator equipped with an extended boom and mechanical demolition hammer.”

This update was provided a week after it was announced that the price of the Key Bridge Rebuild had increased and the expected completion date was moved from 2028 to 2030.
