Urbach Files to Run for County Council in New District 9

Dundalk resident JD Urbach has filed to run for the new Baltimore County Councilmanic District 9.

The Baltimore County Council voted to expand its districts from seven to nine for the 2026 Election.

District 9 makes up the Dundalk, Rosedale and Edgemere portion of the old District 7.

Urbach is a professional project manager who currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) and the Baltimore County Republican Central Committee. He was named “Dundalk Citizen of the Year” this past May by the Optimist Club of Dundalk and previously served as CCBC Board Chair, Our Lady of Hope / St. Luke School Board President and District Chairman for the Baltimore Area Council Scouting America.

According to Urbach, he has cited his deep ties to the district and love of community as motivation for seeking a seat on the council.

“I’m committed to listening and bringing neighbors together to tackle the many challenges that Dundalk, Rosedale, Edgemere and the peninsula all face.”

He states that his campaign will be built around promoting public safety, growing the local economy and fighting to reduce taxes and fees on hardworking families.

“I believe that county government must be responsive, transparent, and accountable. It’s the job of the County Council to advocate for taxpayers and ensure good government.”

Urbach adds that “over the last three years, we’ve seen increases in taxes and fees from Annapolis. It’s unacceptable.  As your County Councilman I will work to find efficiency in local government; cut spending and return money back to taxpayers.”

The Republican candidate will hold a Kickoff Fundraiser on Jan. 9 from  6 – 8 p.m. at the Hall at North Point-Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department.

Urbach is the first candidate to file in the new District 9.

Republican Councilman Todd Crandell would move to this district but there has been speculation that he may not run for reelection.

Dundalk resident Tim Fazenbaker has also talked about running in this district as a Republican.
