The Baltimore Sun reported County Councilman Todd Crandell won’t seek reelection for 2026.
The Baltimore Banner reported Crandell was involved in an incident with Baltimore County Police and told the Sun that incident contributed to his decision not to seek reelection.
Crandell was the first elected Republican to District 7 (Dundalk and Essex) in 2014 and was reelected in 2018 and 2022.
There was speculation that Crandell won’t seek reelection and Republicans Tim Fazenbaker, JD Urbach and Democrat Arkia A. Wade are the only three candidates to file at this time.
Crandell said in the Sun interview that he is endorsing Urbach.
Urbach released the following statement in response Crandell’s announcement.
“I thank Councilman Todd Crandell for his words of encouragement and support and for his accomplishments in serving Baltimore County’s 7th District over the past 12 years,” Urbach said.
“I pray for his continued well-being and look forward to us working together to advance the priorities that matter most to the citizens of the new Council District 9”
