BCPS informs parents that student walkout is possible Friday

Baltimore County Public Schools sent out a letter to parents that there is a possibility of another student walkout on Friday, March 13 at BCPS secondary schools.

The full letter is below:

School administration has been informed that on Friday, March 13, some secondary students may participate in the Maryland Youth Walkout.

While students have a right to organize and assemble peacefully, walkouts/protests that occur during school hours disrupt teaching and learning and school operations.

We strongly encourage our students to explore alternate methods for voicing their opinions on topics that are important to them. It is imperative that we minimize disruptions to the instructional day and school operations.

As a reminder, these walkouts/demonstrations are not organized or supported by the school and school system and the instructional day will continue as planned.

We expect all students to always conduct themselves safely and appropriately. Students who violate the Code of Conduct and disrupt instruction and school operations will receive consequences.

Should a walkout occur, we will send a follow-up message to the community. We encourage you to discuss personal expectations with your child(ren) and remind them that disruptive behaviors will not be tolerated.

Thank you for your support. Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Many students across BCPS schools participated in a walkout on Feb. 6.
