The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin two projects to improve safety on US 1 (Belair Road) north of Kingsville, and on US 1 (Hickory Bypass) north of Bel Air, Harford County.
Beginning as soon as Monday, March 23, crews will replace guardrails where needed along the shoulders of US 1 (Belair Road) from Open Bible Way to the Harford County Line/Little Gunpowder Falls. Contractor crews will work along this one-mile segment of US 1 on weekdays, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Weather permitting, the project will be complete in early April.
Beginning on or after Wednesday, April 1, crews will replace all guardrail along the median and shoulders of US 1 Hickory Bypass. Contractor crews will work along this 1.3-mile segment with lane closures on either northbound or southbound US 1 Hickory Bypass 9 a.m.-3 p.m., weekdays and overnights 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Sunday – Thursday.
This project will be completed early summer 2027, weather permitting.
