Fifth District Councilman David Marks announced that Odd Fellows Lodge in Upper Falls has been nominated as a landmark. His office released the following article
Upper Falls Odd Fellows Lodge 175, located at the corner of Chapman and Raphel Roads, has been nominated for landmarks status by the members of the organization.
Should the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the Baltimore County Council support the nomination, the structure will be added to Baltimore County’s inventory of protected places.
Originally constructed in the 1850s as the primary schoolhouse for the settlement of McCubbinsville, the building has served as the continuous headquarters for Lodge 175 since about 1925.
It stands as a rare surviving example of a mid-Victorian public building that transitioned from a civic educational facility to a fraternal hub, maintaining its architectural integrity and social relevance for over 170 years. The lodge often holds meetings, craft fairs, and other events.
The lodge is the heart of the Upper Falls community, a village that is part of Greater Kingsville.
Staff in the office of Baltimore County Councilman David Marks helped the lodge research information for the nomination.
Councilman Marks has said he will support the permanent protection of the building.
“I thank Lodge 175 for acting to preserve this building, which is a truly iconic structure in this rural area of Baltimore County,” Councilman Marks commented.
“Lodge 175 welcomes all individuals who want to make a difference and support the ideals of our organization,” added Noble Grand Michael Milam.
