Maryland Transportation Authority to hold virtual industry forum
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) today announced a virtual industry forum on May 19 at 2 p.m.
During the forum, MDTA representatives will present the anticipated contracting approach for the rebuilding of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and discuss how upcoming work will be divided into multiple contracts.
With design advancing past the 70 percent milestone, restructuring the procurements into multiple contracts will allow for greater competition within the contracting community, expand opportunities for the local work force and expedite the award of new contracts.
“Rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge and reconnecting the I-695 Baltimore Beltway as expeditiously and safely as possible remains a top priority for MDTA,” said MDTA Executive Director Bruce Gartner.
“This contracting strategy creates multiple opportunities for the construction and consulting community to contribute their expertise across different elements of the project.
We expect the restructure of the construction opportunities will bring together a diverse range of prime contractors and subcontractors to support a coordinated and efficient rebuild effort.”
