Baltimore County Councilman David Marks announced today that the Department of Pubic Works and Transportation will install a new digital sign in the 3600 block of East Joppa Road in Carney to inform drivers of their speed.

The solar-powered sign is similar to the one located on Honeygo Boulevard.  It will remind drivers of their speed on one of the busiest roads in Perry Hall.

“Joppa Road is one of the most active corridors in Baltimore County,” Marks commented.  “Unfortunately, like many corridors that were built or widened decades ago, it is designed to carry traffic and not necessarily to accommodate pedestrians to slow down excessive speed.  Speed bumps and other measures are not practical here.”

Marks said he was asked to help with speeding by residents of Pearlwood Court near Walther Boulevard.  Marks convened meetings between the county, residents, and the Baltimore County Police Department, which continues to enforce activity.

“The sign is not a cure-all, but hopefully will help reduce speeding and remind motorist of their habits,” Marks concluded.
