A former Perry Hall High teacher, who was known for his bravery in the 2012 Perry Hall High School shooting case, was one of several people arrested after an investigation into suspected human trafficking and illicit activity occurring in a Delaware spa on July 15.
The New Castle County Police Department reported detectives executed a search warrant at the business and encountered three adult women of Asian descent, ages 47, 54, and 56, who were identified as victims of human trafficking.
The investigation determined the women were allegedly forced to work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, without proper compensation.
The operator Nan Son Yim of the Delaware spa was arrested and charged with human trafficking. Police said they are still looking for owner Meilan Quan to arrest her on human trafficking charges.
When police entered the spa, they said they encountered 78-year-old Thomas Hofer, of West Chester, Pennsylvania, and 45-year-old Jesse Wasmer, of Kingsville.
Both men were taken into custody and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters, where each was charged with:
• One misdemeanor count of Attempting to Commit Patronizing a Prostitute.
Wasmer and Hofer were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on their own recognizance.
Wasmer was known for his heroic actions in 2012 when a Perry Hall High student began shooting in the school cafeteria on the first day of school.
One student was shot, but Wasmer rushed over and tackled the gunman to prevent any further shots.
