The question is how many mail-in ballots are out there?
We know that in Council Districts 8 and 9, Republicans Josh Sines is leading Democrat Shronda Dillard-Huffman (13,886 to 11,824) and Tim Fazenbaker is leading Democrat Arkia Wade (11, 094 to 10,020 votes)
Are these races over? Not until all the mail-ballots have been counted.
We have seen races where Democrats have won 75 percent of the mail-in ballot votes. So a round of 2,000 votes could convert to a ratio of 1,500 to 500 for the Democratic candidates.
That is good news for Dillard-Huffman and Wade.
So how many mail-ballots are uncounted in these districts?
The Baltimore Sun reported around 49,000 mail-in ballots have not been counted yet in Baltimore County. If you divide 49,000 into the new nine districts, that is around 5,500 mail-in ballots per district.
However; we don’t know if the mail-in ballots were requested evenly across each district.
Mail-in ballots typical are requested by Democratic voters so perhaps the council districts with higher amounts of Democratic voters have more mail-in ballots than moderate districts such as Council District 8 & 9.
Legislative District 6 on the state level overlaps Council District 9 and LD 6 reportedly has around 2,700 uncounted mail-in ballots.
The new council districts are smaller than the state districts so there could be less than 2,700 ballots.
We just don’t know but could find out more soon as the first round of post election mail-in ballots are counted on Thursday.
Sekora was a factor in Council 9
Speaking of Council District 9, Donna Sekora got on the ballot in District 9 as an unaffiliated candidate and received over 1,500 votes and nearly 7 percent of the vote.
I thought she was a write-in candidates and didn’t realize she received enough signatures to make it to the ballot.
Was she a factor? Well, Fazenbaker is up by 1,074 votes and Sekora had over 1,500 votes.
