Baltimore County launched a public survey to gather community input on the future of the County-owned aquatic centers in Dundalk and Randallstown.
Residents are encouraged to complete the brief survey to help guide future operations, programming, and access at both facilities.
As part of that effort, Baltimore County’s Department of Recreation and Parks will assume operations of both facilities following the conclusion of the current lease with the Y of Central Maryland.
The County is developing a phased operational plan that will allow continued public access while longer-term programming and operations are shaped by community feedback.

In addition to the online survey, Baltimore County will host two public listening sessions in August where residents can share their thoughts, ask questions, and help shape the future of the County-owned indoor aquatic centers.
The Dundalk meeting will be held at
Dundalk Elementary School, 2717 Playfield St. from Monday, August 17 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Baltimore County’s Department of Recreation and Parks began evaluating long-term options for the centers after the Y of Central Maryland notified Baltimore County that it would not renew its lease to operate the facilities.
As the County explores solutions that serve the needs of the surrounding communities, feedback will play a vital role in determining how the pools can best serve residents.
“These pools have long served our families, seniors, and communities,” said Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier.
“We want to hear from the people who use them today and those who could benefit from them in the future. Community input will help shape the best path forward for these facilities.”
The survey asks residents about their current use of indoor pools, preferred hours of operation, desired aquatic programs, payment preferences, and other factors that would influence how often they visit. Responses will help the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks evaluate future programming opportunities and community demand at both locations.
Recreation and Parks is developing a short-term operational plan that would provide weekday and weekend public access at both pools during the fall and early winter. The initial plan calls for approximately 70 hours of combined weekly operations between the Dundalk and Randallstown facilities.
During this phase, Baltimore County will provide staffing while a contracted pool maintenance company will oversee cleaning and facility maintenance.
This phased approach allows the County to continue providing access to both pools while using survey results, stakeholder feedback, staffing availability, and funding considerations to develop a long-term operational plan

“The Dundalk Y has long been a pillar of our community,” said Baltimore County Councilmember Todd Crandell, District 7.
“After hearing from many over the uncertainties of its future, I am glad to see the Administration taking positive steps and incorporating that same feedback into planning the next chapter of our pool.”
