Former state Senator Norman Stone passed away at the age of 87.
Stone represented the Edgemere area for 52 years in the Maryland General Assembly and 48 years as a member of the Maryland State Senate. He was added to the Dundalk region and later the Essex area.
Former Gov. Larry Hogan released a statement on Stone’s passing.
“I’m saddened to learn of the passing of Former Maryland State Senator Norman Stone. His legacy as the longest-serving member of the General Assembly, spanning nearly five decades, will be remembered,” Hogan said.
“Norm was a wonderful man and his dedication to public service leaves an indelible mark on our state. Yumi and I offer our heartfelt condolences to Joanne, his children, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.:
Stone was also an attorney.
Stone retired as 6th District Senator after the 2014 session. He was succeeded by state Senator Johnny Ray Salling in District 6 in 2015. Salling released a statement about his predecessor.
“It is a very sad day and a loss to Maryland and the 6th District of Baltimore County. Our friend and Senate Norman Stone passed away yesterday morning,” Salling said in a statement.
