Great Pumpkin Smash” Event at Eastern Regional Park

The Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation will host its inaugural “Great Pumpkin Smash” event, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Eastern Regional Park, located at 11723 Eastern Avenue in Middle River.

The event, which will be held rain or shine, brings the community together, while benefitting the County’s composting efforts.

Residents can experience the singular joy of supervised destruction, smashing their leftover pumpkins from Halloween with an assortment of smashing instruments.

After the event, the pumpkins will be taken to the County’s compost pile at the Eastern Sanitary Landfill in White Marsh, where the material will biodegrade into compost used for County landscaping and other projects.

Composting saves precious space and decreases greenhouse gas build-up in the County’s only active landfill. Along with the “Great Pumpkin Smash,” there will also be giveaways, games and snacks, providing fun for the whole family.

Residents who don’t want to smash a pumpkin can still support composting efforts by dropping their pumpkins off for collection. Gourds of all shapes and sizes are accepted, carved or uncarved, no squash safe from getting smashed.
