Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier and the Department of Public Works and Transportation will host the second annual “Great Pumpkin Smash” on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Honeygo Run Regional Park, in Perry Hall.
Held rain or shine, this free family-friendly event brings the community together while supporting the County’s growing composting initiatives. No registration is required to participate.
Residents are invited to enjoy the unique fun of safely smashing their leftover Halloween pumpkins using a variety of DPWT-supplied tools.
After the event, all collected pumpkins will be transported to the County’s composting site at the Eastern Sanitary Landfill in White Marsh, where they will naturally break down into nutrient-rich compost used to support local sustainability projects.
Composting helps conserve valuable landfill space and reduces greenhouse gas emissions at Baltimore County’s only active landfill.
In addition to the Pumpkin Smash, attendees can enjoy giveaways, games, snacks, and educational exhibits from several County agencies, including Police, Fire, Animal Services, Recreation and Parks, Aging, Health, Baltimore County Public Library and the Department of Environmental Protection and Sustainability. Each exhibit will be offering activities and learning opportunities for all ages.
Residents who prefer not to smash their pumpkins may still participate by dropping them off for composting.
**Attendees are also encouraged to support local residents in need by donating non-perishable canned food items and or clothing, which will be donated to area charitable organizations.**
