The following press release was submitted by Baltimore County Government about a land purchase in the Middle Area area from Lockheed Martin
As part of ongoing efforts to expand green space throughout Baltimore County, County Executive Kathy Klausmeier today that Baltimore County has purchased a one-acre parcel of land from Lockheed Martin for $1.
The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks will turn the property into a pocket park; a small, public, passive-use space. It will follow a community engagement process.
“Community parks are anchors for residents everywhere, and this agreement continues our work to provide more recreational and green spaces for our residents,” said Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier.
“Lockheed Martin’s generous offer gives us the opportunity to expand quality-of-life improvement efforts in our neighborhoods, and I know this park will be enjoyed by families for generations to come.”
An ideal location – 700 Wilson Point Rd. and adjacent to Martin State Airport
• The waterfront site is also covered with grass
• No permanent structures make it prime for conversion
• Overlooks Dark Head Cove
• Underwent remediation and was cleaned for recreational use

“I appreciate the administration’s work to complete this open space acquisition, which has been a complex transaction over many years, said Baltimore County Councilman David Marks. “Not only is this a beautiful part of Baltimore County, but we have every right to be proud of the role this community has played in the aviation history of the United States.”
The property was transferred to Baltimore County on Friday, October 31, 2025.
The acquisition of this Middle River property continues the county’s efforts to expand park and recreation opportunities for families throughout the county. Other recent projects in Eastern Baltimore County:
• A waterfront park is slated on 85 acres of land at the former Charles P. Crane facility grounds
• A new trail at Rocky Point Park in Essex
• Sparrows Point Park
• New Recreation Activity Centers in Middle River and Rosedale
Hazelwood Skate Park in Rosedale has the County’s second-ever concrete skate bowl.
