On February 18th, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved a $500,000 grant for the acquisition, planning, design, construction, expansion, repair, renovation, reconstruction, site improvements, and capital equipment for an extension of the Bengies Road sanitary sewer system.

“We are thrilled to help our constituents be able to replace failing wastewater systems by tying into the Baltimore sewer system,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga.

“This project will help the environment and reduce public health risks.”

Delegate Ryan Nawrocki added, “Residents of Middle River have needed this vital upgrade for years, and this project will provide much-needed access to the Baltimore Sanitary Sewer System. This infrastructure improvement will strengthen the health, safety, and longevity of this Eastern Baltimore County neighborhood.”

Last year, longtime resident of the Bengies Road neighborhood, Mrs. Patricia Payne, came to Annapolis to advocate for the much-needed funding for the funding for the sewer system. She has been a member of the community for nearly her entire life.

Residents like Payne is one step closer to having an adequate sewer system in their community.

This grant covers a portion of the project and will go a long way toward helping the residents of Bengies Road in Middle River.
