Perry Hall Falls to Mervo 6 to 0

Perry Hall’s perfect season and chance at a state title came to an end on Friday in a 6 to 0 loss to Mervo in the 4A/3A state semifinals.

The Gator defense fought hard and shut out the Baltimore City school most of the game, but Mervo scored the only touchdown of the game on a 75-yard pass in the fourth quarter.

Mervo was able to move the ball into Perry Hall territory for a few drives but came up short in the first three quarters. Gator defender Corey Costner had 4th down interception to end of one those drives.

The Perry Hall defense ended some of Mervo’s drives with sacks. KL Lewis had three sacks on the night. Tyler Green, Travis Tudor and Noah Williams also recorded sacks in the game

It appears that Mervo was going to add a second touchdown at the end of the game. They had a 1st and goal inside the Gator 10, but a penalty and another sack by Tyler Green forced a 4th and goal at the Perry Hall 35. Mervo was stopped during the next play.

Perry Hall quarterback  Da’Shaun Conway put together one last drive and connected on five passes to get to the ball to midfield before running out of time.

Mervo’s defense was tough all night and never gave up the big play.

Conway was able to hit Green and Jacob Wagner, Dallas Conway and other receivers on short passes, but was never able to connect on deep passes. The Gator running game was dominant all over the best defenses in Baltimore County, but Mervo was able to take away the explosive plays.

The Gator’s best drive of the night took place in the first half when they got to the Mervo 35-yard-line, but that drive ended in an interception.

The team finished 12-1 on the season. Mervo will play for the 4A/3A state title next week.
