Here are some news and notes about Nick Stewart’s key endorsement; guests at Arkia Wade’s event and the next generation of Crizer and Mohorovic
* Nick Stewart gets FOP endorsement
I receive endorsement announcements all the time and can’t publish them because it’s too many and most of those endorsements go to the predictable candidates.
However; I was a little surprised that the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 4 announced they were endorsing Democratic County Executive candidate Nick Stewart.
The FOP has been strong supporters of Democratic candidates for decades but there has been some pushback the last few election cycles as some Democratic lawmakers have been criticized for introducing what many call “anti-police” legislation.
The FOP endorsed Republican Al Redmer over Democrat John Olszewski in the 2018 Baltimore County Executive race and there was no endorsement of either Olszewski or Republican Pat McDonough in the 2022 race. It didn’t matter too much as Olszewski won both races, but it is interesting that none of the current three Councilman running for County Executive picked up the FOP endorsement.
Is the endorsement of the Democratic outsider Nick Stewart a way for the FOP to send a message to the Democratic establishment?
* The next generation of Crizer and Mohorovic
In 2014, Jake Mohorovic edged out Ed Crizer by 115 votes to take the third and final spot in the 2014 Democratic District 6 primary for the House of Delegates.
It might appear both men were running for County Council in the new District 9 this year. Ed Crizer filed for the County Council race as a Democrat and Jake Mohorovic is running as a Republican, but it’s actually their sons.
If you look closer, Ed Crizer Jr. and Jake Mohorovic III filed to run for County Council. Not only do these two men have the name ID advantage of a well-known last name, but they have their father’s first name too.
We will see if that helps them in their primaries.
*Arika Wade draws big names at her event
Speaking of the new County Council District 9, Arika Wade kicked off her campaign in Dundalk.
Although the Wade campaign didn’t post any photos of the event, Democratic County Executive candidates Izzy Patoka and Pat Young each shared photos of their attendance at Wade’s event on social media.

I’m not sure if either Patoka or Young gave Wade an official endorsement, but it appears she is the establishment’s choice to win the Democratic nomination in the new District 9.
