District 7A delegates criticize Moore’s State of the State

District 7A Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki responded to Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s State of the State address on Wednesday. Here is their news release

Following the Governor’s State of the State address, Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki criticized the administration’s focus on political priorities over the rising cost pressures facing Maryland families.

The delegates said the speech failed to address the state’s growing affordability crisis, particularly soaring energy costs and the strain on working families.

Over the last three years, Governor Wes Moore has passed historic tax and fee increases to cover unsustainable, reckless government spending.

Despite these historic tax increases, Maryland is still facing significant budget deficits due to the Governor’s spend-and-tax approach.

While Moore attempts to blame President Donald Trump for Maryland’s fiscal crisis, his policies have driven up taxes and made your gas and electric bills unaffordable.

“Governor Moore failed to address the tragedy of Kaya Ward, a foster child who died in the care of the Maryland Department of Human Services,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga.

“He failed to address the state staffers who inflated SNAP benefit error rates to delay paying federal penalties. He failed to discuss the millions of dollars that audits revealed were misused or unaccounted for. Once again, Governor Moore refused to take responsibility for his administration’s failures and pointed the finger at Washington, D.C. whenever possible.”

“Maryland families are paying the price for misplaced priorities,” said Delegate Ryan Nawrocki.

“Instead of solving problems at home, Governor Moore is focused on politics. We need transparent leadership that lowers energy costs, cuts taxes, and restores affordability. Repealing the Moore tax and fee hikes that are driving up everyday expenses is how we make Maryland affordable again.”

Szeliga and Nawrocki remain committed to advancing the Maryland Freedom Caucus agenda to make our state safer, freer, and more prosperous.

Central to that effort is their four-point energy plan, which delivers immediate relief on gas and electric bills, meaningful reductions next year, and lasting affordability for Maryland families and businesses in the years ahead.
