District 7A Delegates Kathy Szeliga and Ryan Nawrocki released a statement today applauding the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County’s decision granting summary judgment in Howell v.a Maryland State Board of Elections and striking down the effort to place HB2100 before Maryland voters.
“This decision is a massive victory for fair and free representation,” said Delegate Kathy Szeliga.
“Marylanders deserve to elect their representatives instead of having their representatives selected for them. The passage of HB2100 was a flawed and rushed process that blatantly violates state law.”
“This was always ‘rules for thee, but not for we,’” said Delegate Ryan Nawrocki.
“Annapolis Democrats wrote the deadlines, expected everyone else to follow them, and then ignored their own law the moment it became inconvenient. Today, the court said that doesn’t fly.”
The case now moves to the Supreme Court of Maryland, where Delegates Szeliga and Nawrocki, along with the Maryland Freedom Caucus and the Oversight Project, said they will continue to defend Marylanders’ right to due process and lawful representation, and to oppose any attempt to place HB2100 on the ballot in violation of state law.
