Baltimore County Public Schools announced the Board of Education of Baltimore County has selected a candidate for its new superintendent and has submitted the name to Maryland state superintendent Dr. Carey Wright as required by state law.
If the state approves, the Board will announce the name of the selected candidate on Monday, June 22, and will meet in person on Wednesday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. to appoint the next superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools.
The Board’s closed session will begin at 6:15 p.m. The new superintendent will take office on Wednesday, July 1, replacing the retiring BCPS Superintendent Dr. Myriam Rogers
BCPS District 3 Board Member Maggie Litz Domanowski said she is happy with the selection but doesn’t understand the reason for delaying the release of the name to the public.
“I’m not sure if everyone remembers but on the day we appointed Dr. Myriam Rogers (then Yarbrough) we also announced it to the public prior to State superintendent approval,” Domanowski wrote on social media.
“Why we can’t tell you who we agreed on and who also accepted to lead BCPS into a brighter future is not something I can answer. All I can say is, your board representatives made the right decision.”
