Public Comment Sought on Sparrows Point Project

The public comment period is now open through March 21, on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) detailing the planned container terminal project at Coke Point in Sparrows Point, anticipated construction and operational impacts, contemplated mitigation measures, and alternatives.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) released the following 792-page joint Sparrows Point Container Terminal Project (SPCT) Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for public review and comment.

A printed copy of this document can be reviewed during normal business hours at the Sollers Point, North Point, Essex, and Rosedale branches of the Baltimore County Public Library. A related Special Public Notice will be published in the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Banner, Capital Gazette, and Dundalk Eagle the week of Jan. 13.

Comments and feedback can be provided on the project at one of the upcoming public hearing dates below:

Feb. 25 (In-Person)

Sollers Point Multi-Purpose Center

323 Sollers Point Road, Dundalk, Maryland 21222

5 to 6 p.m.: Poster Session; 6:00 p.m. and end no later than 9:00 p.m.

Feb. 27 (Virtual)

Access the virtual public hearing meeting.

2 to 3 p.m.: Poster Session (slide presentation); 3 p.m. and end no later than 6 p.m.

In case of inclement weather on Feb. 25, where the Baltimore County snow emergency plan is in effect or Baltimore County public schools are closed, the in-person public hearing will be held on March 4 at the Sollers Point Multi-Purpose Center located at 323 Sollers Point Road in Dundalk.

From 5 to 6 p.m. there will be a poster session and the public hearing will extend from 6 p.m. ending no later than 9 p.m. If the hearing on Feb. 25 is held, there will not be a hearing on March 4.
