Eastern Tech Beats Winless Western Tech 36-22 on Homecoming

Eastern Tech’s offense used running back David Akinsuroju’s four rushing touchdowns to defeat Western Tech 36-22 at CCBC Essex on Homecoming for the school.

The Mavericks scored on their opening drive in the first minute of the game when Akinsuroju broke off a 69-yard-touchdown run to put Tech up 8-0.

It appeared Eastern Tech was going to dominate winless Western Tech but didn’t take advantage of opportunities in the first half.

The Mavericks drove the ball down to the Western Tech 21-yard line but were stopped on third and fourth down.

Akinsuroju broke off a 60-yard touchdown run (which would have given him five touchdowns on the night) but it was called back because of a holding penalty.

Western Tech stuck around and cut the Maverick lead to 8-6 late in the second quarter.

Eastern Tech quarterback Chiedozie Erondu answered and put his team up 14-6 after he connected with running back Nate Noyes on a 7-yard touchdown reception with four seconds left before halftime.

Western Tech scored two touchdowns in the second half but Akinsuroju answered with touchdown runs of 5, 17 and 50 yards.

Eastern Tech’s defense was led by Jonah Sorna and Landon Beverage.

Senior Nick Burke had an interception and Luke Brennan recovered a fumble for the Maverick defense.

The Friday night win improves Eastern Tech to 2-5 on the year.
