Eastern Tech Girls BB Upsets Dunbar; Dundalk’s Season Ends

Eastern Tech Girls Basketball team pulled off an upset as they defeated top seeded Dunbar 52-35 in the regional finals to advance to the 2A State Quarterfinals. Mia Hinal had 22 points and Evelyn Gatira scored 14 in the win. The score was tied at halftime 21-21 before Tech went on a 31 to 14 in the second half.

The Mavericks started off the playoffs by defeating Chesapeake 39-27 in the 2A North Regional Semifinals. That was a revenge game for Eastern Tech as the Bayhawks won the regular season match up.

Coach Alexis Washington and her Maverick team went back to the State 8 for the second straight year,   but lost to Frederick Douglass of Prince George’s County in overtime on Friday.

Western 62 Dundalk 13
The Owls season came to an end with a loss at Western of Baltimore City. Dundalk made a nice run in the 4A North playoffs before this regional finals loss. The Owl started with a 53-21 win against Kenwood and then upset top seeded Perry Hall on the road 41-36. Dundalk’s win over the Gators was redemption after they loss at Perry Hall in the regular season.

The Boys Basketball playoffs continue tonight as Eastern Tech will try to match the Girls success as they also travel to Dunbar tonight in the 2A North Regional Finals. Perry Hall is in the 4A North Regional Finals and host Mervo tonight.
