High Football Playoffs Start Today

The MPSSAA high school football playoffs start this weekend.

The public schools football playoffs are divide into six classifications based on school enrollment.

Schools in the eastern Baltimore County area have teams in five of the six classifications.

Similar to other high school sports, every team qualifies for the playoffs regardless of their win-loss record.

Here are the local playoff match-ups in the classifications.

4A Bracket

6. Meade at 3. Dundalk
The Owls are in the largest and toughest classification in the state. They are the third seed in the 4A North Region host Meade at home on Friday at 6. This is a rematch of last season first round game when the Owls won 41-26.
If Dundalk wins, they play at Glen Burnie in the second round.

4A/3A Bracket

7. Kenwood at 2. Perry Hall
A first round game in the 4A/3A North Region features a regular season rematch between two local teams. The Gators won at Kenwood 33-6 in October. This time the Bluebirds travel to Perry Hall on Friday at 5. The winner plays Dulaney-Digital Harbor winner in the second round.

5. Woodlawn at 4. Parkville
The Knights hosts Woodlawn in another 4A/3A North Region but the game has been moved to Thursday at 5 p.m. at Perry Hall High since Parkville High does not have lights. Although these teams are in the same classification and County, they didn’t play during the regular season. They winner plays at Mervo next week.

3A Bracket

6. City College at 3. Patapsco
The Patriots play their first ever home playoff game on Thursday at 3:30. If Patapsco wins they will play the winner of Towson-Overlea.

7. Overlea at 2. Towson
The Falcons will have to wait a few days as they play a road game on Saturday at 11 a.m. against Towson at Catonsville High School. Towson High doesn’t have stadium lights and that’s why the game was moved. If Overlea wins, they play at Patapsco-City winner. If Towson wins. Patapsco-City winner plays at Towson.

2A Bracket

6.Eastern Tech at 3 CM Wright
Tech opens the playoffs in Bel Air. If the Mavericks can upset CM Wright, they could host a second round playoff game if Lansdowne can upset Carver Tech.

2A/1A

8. Surrattsville at 1. Sparrows Point
Sparrows Point is not only the top seed in the 2A/1A North Region but the second overall seed in the 2A/1A. If the Pointers can win out, they will have home field advantage through the 2A/1A Title Game in Annapolis.
It’s one step at a time as Sparrows Point hosts Surrattsville of Prince George’s County Thursday at 5 p.m.
If the Pointers win, they will host the winner of Central (Prince George’s County) and Edmondson/Westside (Baltimore City) in the second round

6. Chesapeake at 3. Forest Park
The Bayhawks will play Forest Park on Mervo’s field Thursday at 5 p.m.
If Chesapeake wins that game, they will likely play at Dunbar in the second round.
