-Perry Hall celebrates after a Corey Costner interception before halftime-
Two football juggernauts faced off on Friday as undefeated Perry Hall beat undefeated Dundalk 32-27. This was a rematch from last year’s defensive battle in Dundalk which Perry Hall won 14-7. This year at Perry Hall both offenses showed up.
It was a game of explosive plays on the ground and in the air for both teams. Dundalk started off the fireworks when quarterback Micah Williams hit receiver Tj Lambirth on a 53-yard touchdown pass on their opening drive. The Owls would get their running game going with over 200 yards. Jocquan Jenkins had two rushing touchdowns over 20 yards. Anthony Curtis and Jadyn Vergara also had big runs for the Owls.
Perry Hall quarterback Terrell Hearn would answer throughout the evening as he connected with Vernon Allen on a 32-yard touchdown pass and with Corey Costner on a 31-year reception.
Gator running back Lamont Smith broke off a 54-yard touchdown run in the third quarter but the difference for Perry Hall was two key plays on defense and special teams.
The score was tied 13-13 before the half and Dundalk was driving deep into Gator territory. Williams threw a deep pass that was inception and returned for a touchdown by Costner on the final play before halftime. Dundalk led 27-26 late in the third quarter but then Allen returned a 70-yard kickoff return for his second touchdown of the night for Perry Hall. That would be the game winning touchdown.
Dundalk had a few chances in the fourth quarter but couldn’t score, Gator defensive lineman Jerrod Wilson recovered an Owl fumble, and the defense stopped Dundalk on a fourth down play on their final drive.
Dundalk defense tried to stop the Gators on a 3rd and 13 in the closing minutes, but Hearn hit CJ Crump on a 15-yard completion for a final first down.
Perry Hall improves to 3-1 and Dundalk falls to 2-1.
