Perry Hall was down 28-14 against Oxon Hill with 5:34 left in the 4A/3A state quarterfinals and the team rallied with two late fourth quarter touchdowns to send the game into overtime.
The Gators scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard Noah Williams run for a 28-27 win.
The game was tied 14-14 and Perry Hall was forced with a 4th and goal at their 1 yard-line. The punt was low and short and returned by Oxon Hill for a 30-yard touchdown.
Perry Hall was again pinned at their goal line in the 3rd Quarter and Oxon Hill intercepted a pass to set up a touchdown and 14-point Gator deficit.
Perry Hall quarterback Joey Albrecht rallied the team in the fourth quarter. He led the team with three passes for 84 yards to set up 1 yard td run with 4:19 left in the game.
Perry Hall’s defense forced another punt and Albrecht connected with Williams on a 53 yard reception to get the ball into the Oxon Hill red zone. That setup another Gator rushing touchdown.
Perry Hall had a chance to win it at the end of regulation but kicker Mario Garcia missed a 22-yard field at the end of the game.
Garcia would redeem himself in overtime. Oxon Hill scored first in overtime but missed the extra point. Williams tied the game at 34-34 but Garcia’s made extra point won the game for the Gators.
Perry Hall is in their third straight state semifinals game and they will play at Sherwood next week.
