Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue & Marine released an update on how its crews are preparing for the storm and the possibility of coastal flooding. Here is their statement released Friday around 7 a.m.
“Tropical Storm Debby has been downgraded to a Depression and will be moving through, west of our region throughout the morning.
“Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue & Marine is entering into Phase II of their major storm plan. All units are staffed and a command center is being set up on the second floor of our crew quarters.
“As of 0600, water is encroaching the tops of piers and bulkheads in many places throughout our community, and rising at a rate of 6” per hour. Low tide at Bowleys Bar is scheduled for 7:06 am and high tide at 1:04 pm.
“Winds from the SSE will continue to stack water in our bayfront, rivers and creeks until early afternoon.
“Coastal flooding is imminent. Marine Emergency Team 21 is standing by and ready to assist residents as needed.
“Reminder, coastal flooding as a result of storm conditions can contain hazmat and energized water from ungrounded power sources.
“Continue to check on your neighbors and elderly and offer assistance if it is safe to do so.
“As always, you can reach our local command center for non-urgent issues in Bowleys Quarters by emailing Storm@bqvolunteers.org and for Emergencies dial 911”
