Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred this morning in Rosedale.
Troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack responded to Interstate 95 South at Chesaco Avenue around 2:30 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2019 Nissan Altima was possibly disabled in lane 3 when it was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer.
The passenger of the Nissan, identified as Denzel Butcher, 31, of Baltimore, was declared deceased at the scene by emergency medical services personnel. The passenger of the Nissan, a 28-year-old male, was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his injuries.
The driver and the passenger of the tractor-trailer declined medical treatment at the scene.
I-95 South was closed for about five hours following the crash. Officers with the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation with assistance from troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
