Crews from the North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department and Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine were called onto the ice between Tiki Lees and Essex Sky park on Back River as multiple deer were stranded on the ice on Sunday afternoon.
“The deer couldn’t stand up and kept falling on the ice,” said a statement from the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine
“The two deer were successfully brought back to shore and ran back into the woods.”
Chief George K Theodoroy of North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department added that a third deer was also rescued.
According to Theodoroy, it was a team effort as Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine also played a significant role in coordinating the rescue efforts along with North Point Edgemere Volunteer Fire Department
“During this incident, three deer were involved in distress. I would like to highlight that one deer was successfully rescued by a concerned citizen, while another was saved by the dedicated volunteers of the North Point Edgemere Fire Department,” Theodoroy told Eastcountytimes.com.
Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Rescue and Marine also remind everyone to stay off the ice as frozen areas could be compromised and unsafe.
