Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation announced near  completion a project designed to improve traffic safety along Walther Boulevard near the Oak Crest community in Carney.

According to Baltimore County, the project was designed with discussion with Oak Crest residents enhancing safety for pedestrian crossings, reduce speeding and decrease traffic-related crashes on Walther Boulevard at the entrance to the senior living community.

The project includes:

* installing flexi-posts to develop a designated turn lane which would improve vehicular safety for those entering Oak Crest traveling south from Walther Boulevard.

* creating a designated left turn lane out of the Oak Crest community onto northbound Walther Boulevard.

*constructing a pedestrian crosswalk on Walther Boulevard that would connect Oak Crest to the Food Lion shopping Center. This crosswalk would include a push button with yellow flashing lights to alert motorists in both directions of a pedestrian crossing.
