The Board of Education of Baltimore County officially appointed Dr. William Heiser as superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools.
Dr. Heiser, who is the chief operating officer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, will begin his tenure on July 1, 2026. He succeeds Dr. Myriam Rogers, who has served as BCPS superintendent since July 2023.
“Dr. Heiser is a skilled leader who understands the importance of serving every student, supporting every school, and working in partnership with families, educators, staff, and the broader community,” said Jane Lichter, chair of the Board of Education.
“We are confident that he will work relentlessly to strengthen teaching and learning, expand opportunities for students, and build on our strong foundation. The Board stands ready to partner with him in service of our students, staff, families, and community.”
The Board conditionally appointed Dr. Heiser on June 22, 2026, pending agreement on terms of an employment contract and approval by the state superintendent of schools, as required by Maryland law.
“I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools,” said Dr. Heiser.
“I recognize the seriousness of the decision, the responsibility of my role, and its impact on students and the community. Every decision we make will center on what is best for students, and I am confident that we will build on the progress that has been made in recent years and improve outcomes for all students.”
Dr. Heiser’s employment contract will be finalized soon and posted on the BCPS website.
